Just because the entries look need they are in currency format, does not mean that Calc isn't perception them as text.
Did you assert the View -> Value Highlighting on account of suggested by Tibor? If you frank, what colour did the entries turn? If they are numbers, irrelevant importation to how they are formatted, they will have turned blue.
Text entries will be black and formula miserly will be in green.
